How is this Monday already? And how is it the end of May?! It seems like just yesterday we were talking about the beginning of Spring. Even during quarantine time goes by really fast.
Today I have a rather dramatic card to share featuring my current favorite technique – abstract backgrounds. I teach this technique in the latest class – Spring Card Camp 2 from Online Card Classes.

CARD DETAILS
I made a bunch of backgrounds like this awhile back. Unlike the backgrounds I teach in class, I used darker colors of ink and created rather dramatic backgrounds with my ink pads. I don’t remember the exact ink pad colors I used to make this one, but I know I surely used the following: Soft Sky, Pool, Aquatic, Blue Ombre from Hero Arts as well as Cloudy Sky, Steel Blue from Simon Says Stamp.
Since my background was made ahead of time it was properly dry and ready for heat embossing. If you are just creating a background, do make sure you allow plenty of time for the ink to dry before you proceed to the next step, which is heat embossing.
If you have a Hot Foil machine you can use it in a non-conventional way to dry your background.
I heat embossed a gorgeous floral cluster from the Beautiful Flowers stamp set in Hero Arts Gold embossing powder. To add interest, I used a gold shimmer pen from Jane Davenport and colored the flowers gold. I also added a simple, yet beautiful sentiment from the same stamp set, it reads “You Are So Beautiful and Kind”. I like to have plenty of cards like this (without a clear occasion in mind) in my stash. They work well for sending/gifting a “just because” card.
Lastly, I used deep dark blue sequins from Simon’s Blue Moon sequin mix and Gold Jewels from Pretty Pink Posh.

You are the queen of dramatic cards!!! Another very striking card! And I agree, even under quarantine time goes by so quickly … seems it’s going by even more quickly under quarantine. May you stay safe and healthy. Thanks for sharing your card.
Stunning. Very dramatic, but oh so classy.
Gorgeous!!
As always, your card is wonderful Yana! This blue and this golden match perfectly!
You saw, I’m coming out a bit more from the shadows right now LOL <3
I took the opportunity to read your article on photography, and I also learned things there that I have not used so far and thank you for this precious sharing!
For the little tip to think about allowing the ink to dry, you reminded me of myself a few days ago, it had been a long time since I had used my black versafine and when I wanted to emboss it , dramatic LOL You made me see that with a funny eye suddenly 🙂
The person who receives this card from your hiding place will be very lucky, she is so beautiful! Thank you again for this nice sharing <3
