Simon Says Stamp | Sketch Lotus Flowers & Polychromos Coloring. Video (Blog Hop & Giveaway)

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. When it comes to crafting, I go through phases. Like just a die-cutting phase, or just Copic coloring phase. These days I seem to be back to my Polychromos pencils coloring phase and I have another coloring video for you featuring a stunning Sketch Lotus Flowers stamp set from Simon Says Stamp.

CARDS DETAILS

I have shared numerous videos about pencil coloring and Polychromos coloring is particular (see them all in a playlist HERE) and I’m really happy that you guys are enjoying these. Today I have a simple video featuring no-line polychromos pencil coloring on Strathmore Toned Gray Sketch Paper. I love this paper for any kind of pencil work.

I started making this card by stamping image in light gray ink onto my paper using a mini MISTI. You don’t need to use MISTI for this, regular clear block stamping will work just fine.

Next, I picked the colors of pencils I wanted to use. I looked up lotus images online and decided I wanted to make my flower multicolor! So I have one colored in yellow, one in peach, one in pink and one, what seems to be a leaf, colored red (I didn’t realize it was a leaf and thought it was another flower).

Here’s the list of specific colors I used for this card:

  • Green: #170 May Green, #168 Earth Green Yellowish, #174 Chromium Green Opaque
  • Peach: #132 Light Flesh, #131 Medium Flesh, #101 White
  • Yellow: #107 Cadmium Yellow, #108 Dark Cadmium Yellow, #109 Dark Chrome Yellow
  • Red: #118 Scarlet Red, #223 Deep Red, #225 Dark Red
  • Gray: #232 Cold Grey III, #234 Cold Grey V

Once my coloring was done I used a coordinating die and die-cut image out. I also backed it up with a sheet of Neenah 110lb cardstock to make it more sturdy (the paper that I used for coloring is rather thin). I covered the front of an 4Bar card with white woodgrain cardstock, foam mounted my floral cluster on top, added a white heat embossed sentiment that reads “You Make Life Beautiful” (from the You Got This stamp set) and embellished this card using Butterfly Kisses sequins and Jewels.

    1. Stunning! I dug out some drawing paper I’ve had for a long time and used it with a stamp and polychromes as it had that “tooth” I’ve heard you talk about. The result was so interesting. Came out with a sort of hazy, ethereal sort of look. Good to try different papers!!! Thanks, Yana, for the encouragement, suggestions and demonstrations.

    1. Another gorgeous, colorful card, Yana. The Sketchy Lotus is one of my favorites from this release. Watching your prior pencil coloring inspired me to splurge on a small (12 pc) set of Polychromos pencils and I do love them. Unfortunately this set does not have different shades of the same color — guess I’ll have to start saving up for a larger set.

    1. I think your card is beautiful and I appreciate your tips for using colored pencils. This lotus design is perfect for coloring and using with a no-line technique. Thanks for the inspiration!
