Hello friends! Today I am making a few one layer cards featuring simple stamping, heat and also dry embossing. I’m going to show you how you can create stylish handmade cards for your friends using just a handful of supplies. I’m also using stamps from a brand new company – Ink Road Stamps.

CARD DETAILS
The star of the show is the Frond of You stamp set with two tropical leaves – I love all things tropical and thought that these leaves would make for a great background for my card. I also used Compliments Volume 2 stamp set that features some fun and out of the box sentiments – I am a big fan of the open font used for these messages and and size of these is great to go on a front of a card or these can also be used on the inside of a card. And finally I completed these cards by using Block Party Alpha – solid as well as outline. These can be used alone or together and I combined both for some fun offset look.
When dry embossing with a die it’s important to pick the right paper, it has to be a little thicker so that it doesn’t tear/crack from all of that pressure in the die cutting machine. I used Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock for these cards. You’ll also need to use a metal die to dry emboss this background, I used a square die from Spellbinders from the Pierced and Scored squares set, but any square die will work for this, it can also be a different shape, doesn’t have to be a square – if you have a diamond shape or a rectangle or even a circle – any basic shape die can be used for this technique.
I started working on these cards by stamping the leaves. I used 3 colors of ink for each card plus Gold embossing powder. I used dye inks from Simon Says Stamp in: Maliblue, Scuba, High Dive and Jellybean, Key Lime and Lucky. I made one mask for the monstera leaf to be able to overlap some of my images and cluster them together.
Once my stamping was done I dry embossed the square in the center of each panel. Watch my video tutorial for details.
Ideally, it is best to all of the stamping first and dry emboss as a final step. I knew I wasn’t going to add any more stamping that would overlap dry embossing.
Next, I added some gold heat embossed details – I heat embossed a few leaves completing my tropical clusters. Again, I used the mask to be able to cluster my images together.
You can turn this card into any kind of card you like or need by using an appropriate kind of message. I was making cards for my girlfriends, so I went with fun and quirky messages. I heat embossed messages that read “You’re Like Really Pretty. #Gorgeous“. I also used the Block Party Alpha stamps and stamped “Hey” in blue/green inks, I also added gold heat embossed outlines afterwards.
Finally, I adhered my panels onto A2 white side folding card bases and this finished my cards.
By the way, you could have done your stamping on the front of the card directly, but this way you’d also have some dry embossing on the inside of the card. I didn’t want the inside to have any dry embossing, so I did my stamping on a separate panel and just adhered it onto the card later.
Here’s a look at both of my one layer cards. I did like the green one better and I even stamped an envelope liner for the green card following the same technique I used to stamp the cards. I just skipped adding the dry embossing here.

Beautiful card!!
Ooooh, love the tropical look…..beautiful card. The dry embossing with a die adds a lot of texture and interest to a one layer card. Thanks for the inspiration.
Gorgeous card Yana, one layer cards are really useful when sending cards abroad to crafty friends because the postage for heavier cards can be quite pricey. So thank you for sharing this with us crafters. :O)
Really pretty card (I like the green one best, too) and helpful video.
I’m all about tropical so I really love this. I had to chuckle when you said you liked the green one best, I was thinking I liked the teal one best just because it was different LOL. Both are beautiful and fun. I haven’t tried dry embossing yet but am going to try now. Thanks for the video, it really does help us newbies 🙂
You are so creative, love this!!!
Such beautiful cards! Love the techniques!
Love love this card! I too like the greens … but I just love the tropical leaves too. The dry embossing certainly adds interest to a one layer card. Thanks so much for sharing. Hugs.
