Hello friends! Today I’m sharing an easy gatefold card featuring the beautiful Leaning Lily stamp, coordinating die, and stencil set from Altenew. Lately, I’ve really been enjoying creating cards with unique folds, and this top-folding gatefold design was such a fun project to put together.
What I especially love about this card is that the floral image actually becomes part of the card structure. It’s a simple concept, but it creates a unique interactive card that looks much more complicated than it really is.

EASY GATEFOLD CARD DETAILS
I started by stamping the Leaning Lily image three times onto white cardstock using black pigment ink. Before ink blending, I clear-heat-embossed the stamped outlines. This helps preserve the crisp black lines while ink blending through the coordinating stencils.
The coordinating stencil set makes coloring incredibly quick and easy. I used two shades of green for the leaves and stems, then blended yellow and orange inks onto the petals to create a soft, natural color variation. Even though the stencils aren’t designed for layering stencils, combining multiple ink colors adds wonderful depth to the flowers.
One of my favorite finishing touches was adding detail with fine-tip black and white pens. A few tiny dots on each petal instantly made the lilies look more realistic and gave the flowers extra texture without much effort.
The most interesting part of this project is the card construction.
I created two A2 card bases and used partial die cutting to form shaped gatefold flaps. By positioning the coordinating die so it overlapped the fold and carefully placing the cutting plate, I was able to cut only part of each flower, leaving the fold intact. After trimming away the excess cardstock, I adhered the ink-blended floral die cuts to the shaped flaps.
To continue the design inside the card, I added the third floral image to the center panel. This helps the floral arrangement flow naturally from the front of the card to the inside when the gatefold opens.
For the greeting, I combined sentiments from the Leaning Lily stamp set and the One-Go Solid Sentiment Strips set. I foam-mounted the larger sentiment across the front to help keep the gatefold closed while revealing another sentiment once the card is opened.
To finish the project, I embellished the card with Mother of Pearl Gem Sparkles for just a bit of shimmer.
I absolutely love how this design turned out. If you’re looking for a new way to use your coordinating dies, I hope you’ll give this gatefold technique a try. It’s easier than it looks and creates a card that’s sure to impress.
Have fun stamping!
