Hello and welcome back! Today I’m sharing a fun interactive card featuring a clever slider mechanism and the cutest sardine tin design. This project came together during a little creative break, and it’s one of those cards that looks complex but is actually very doable once you break it down.

CARD DETAILS
This card is all about interaction. The front panel slides open to reveal a tin of sardines inside, and it’s such a fun surprise element.
I used the Big Mouth Sardine Die Set along with the coordinating slider die to create the mechanism. The slider die is key here as it creates the track and stopper, allowing the top panel to move smoothly without sliding off completely.
For the lid of the tin, I die cut the main piece and added detail using the Glad We’re Tight Letterpress + Foil set. Instead of letterpressing, I chose to foil the design for that crisp, metallic finish. I used a hinge method to keep everything aligned while foiling multiple elements.
The color palette for this card was inspired by my home decor, green paired with hot pink. It’s a bold combination, but it works beautifully for a playful design like this.
Once the foiling was done, I stamped the sentiment using the Partners in Brine stamp set. I went with a birthday theme and added a larger fish image in the center for extra interest.
To assemble the tin, I die cut the frame from gold mirror cardstock and backed it with additional layers of cardstock. This helps reinforce the delicate die cut and adds subtle dimension.
Inside the tin, I created a background panel using hot pink cardstock and added darker ink blending around the edges. This gives the illusion of depth when the card is opened.
The sardines themselves were die cut from gold mirror cardstock and backed with colored cardstock for stability. I adhered them using thin foam squares to keep the dimensions minimal so everything fits nicely within the slider.
For the slider mechanism, I used a combination of cardstock and fun foam to build up the track. The added thickness ensures the top panel can glide smoothly without catching on the dimensional elements underneath.
I finished the card with a color-blocked background using coordinating pink tones. This adds visual interest without distracting from the main interactive element.
