Simon Says Stamp | You Are Cherished Tropical Watercolor Card + New Release

Hello, friends! You might have already guessed there’s a new release from Simon Says Stamp on the horizon! I’ve been posting some sneaks on my Instagram (and a card from the sneaks is coming to my blog tomorrow along with a video tutorial). In this post, however, I wanted to share a different project I made using new products – a tropical watercolor You Are Cherished card.

CARD DETAILS
When I sat down to make this card I was very much inspired by a sneak video Debby posted a few days ago. I loved her coloring and expert use of colored pencils, but I knew I would never be able to do coloring like that myself. So I settled on what was doable and realistic for me – watercolor.
Despite the fact that I am not a big fan of masking I made a few masks for the tropical flowers from the Summer Flowers stamp set and stamped this floral arrangement using Versafine Onyx Black ink on Arches Hot Pressed watercolor paper. I saved my mask so I can always go back and stamp more floral arrangements using these images (I am really looking forward to that as these are just stunning florals).
I pulled out my Daniel Smith watercolors (I used dot watercolors that came in my Simon’s kit) and did some coloring. I also added a bit of aqua around the images to add some color to the background and help images stand out. After my coloring was done I used one of the new stencils – the Circular Lace and dry embossed my panel in my Platinum 6 die cutting machine. I’ll be sharing the dry embossing part on video on Friday, so stay tuned.
By the time I finished my dry embossing the watercolors have dried completely and lost a some of their color, they weren’t as vibrant as I had hoped they’d be so I pulled out my Copics and used them to intensify the darker, shadow areas on my panel.
For my sentiment I went with “You Are Cherished” from the new Thoughtful Messages stamp set. I heat embossed it in white onto vellum and wrapped velum around the panel. I thought about stamping it in black onto the panel itself, or stamping onto a strip of cardstock, but I didn’t want to cover up any of my coloring so I went with vellum.
I foam mounted my panel onto a 4 Bar card and added several white dots using Nuvo Drops. I also used a white gel pen to whiten the certain areas on my card.
