CARD DETAILS
When I first saw the Party Time Dragon die set, I immediately knew I wanted to create something bright, cheerful, and full of color. This little dragon is incredibly cute and can be customized in so many different ways simply by changing the cardstock colors.
For my card, I decided to create a colorful tropical-inspired background and pair it with two green dragons celebrating a special occasion.
I started by building the background. To create the layered sunset design, I die-cut several semicircle shapes from colorful cardstock using the Essential Modern Ovals dies. By stacking the pieces together and arranging them from yellow to orange and red, I was able to create a bold sunshine element that instantly became the focal point of the card.
Next, I added layers of foliage using the Landscape Edges dies from the On the Farm collection. Instead of traditional green cardstock, I chose shades of teal and aqua to coordinate with the rest of the color palette. This helped create separation between the background elements and the green dragons while keeping the overall design bright and playful.
I really love creating scenes like this. Once you have a colorful layered background, you can use it with all kinds of die-cut images, characters, animals, or floral arrangements.
The Party Time Dragon die set includes multiple pieces that allow you to customize the dragon with different colors and details. One of my favorite things about Spellbinders die sets is that they are designed in layers, making it easy to create dimensional and colorful die-cut characters.
For this card, I assembled two dragons from shades of green cardstock and added small details using white gel pen highlights. These tiny accents help bring the characters to life and add extra personality.
Instead of using the balloon included in the die set, I wanted my dragon to hold something a little different. I searched through my stash and found a small flower and envelope from the Parcel & Post collection. These elements fit perfectly and gave the dragon a sweet and whimsical look.
To create the sentiment, I used the YAY die from the Aged to Perfection collection and paired it with a hot-foiled Celebrate sentiment from the Ideal Moments Sentiments set. I love combining large die-cut words with smaller supporting sentiments to create custom greetings.
Once all of the pieces were ready, I assembled the card by layering the background elements, adding the sentiment, and foam mounting the dragons for dimension.
To finish the design, I embellished the card with emerald gems and added additional white gel pen details to the dragons and flowers.
I absolutely love how cheerful this project turned out. The bright colors, playful dragon, and bold sentiment make this a perfect birthday card for kids and adults alike.
