Altenew | Alcohol Markers Release – Royal Flowers Thank You Card. Blog Hop + Giveaway (Now Closed)
Hello there! Thank you so much for stopping by today to help celebrate Alcohol Marker Release from Altenew. This is something completely new and absolutely incredible! I remember how excited I was when Altenew came out with their first ink pads 2 years ago – they did not disappoint one bit. Hopefully, these markers won’t either (I am extremely happy with them so far).

I’ll admit, I was very skeptical about these markers from Altenew. I have Copics, I have Chameleon Pens, I even have Trimcraft First Edition Markers (also alcohol based). I didn’t think I’d like these by Altenew. But you never judge the book by its cover (not that there’s something wrong with the “cover” of these markers). I gave them a try – and oh boy!
I first tested these markers on a piece of Simon’s 120 LB White Cardstock (I love this paper for Copic coloring) – I colored from light to dark to see how the colors would blend, tried both nibs to see how they apply ink. I loved the result!
Next, I grabbed a sheet of Neenah Solar White paper (this is my most used paper for stamping) and stamped Altenew Adore You flowers and leaves using Simon’s Intense Black ink.
You can use these markers with Altenew existing inks for “no-line coloring” technique. You do have to use alcohol-friendly ink to color with these, so you can’t stamp ouline images with Altenew crisp dye inks and color, the outline will bleed.
The marker set being released today contains reds, blues and greens so I decided to use reds and greens to color my images. I went with “from dark to light” application and first added my darkest color, next my medium and blended everything with the lightest. I later came in with the darkest color again to intensify the shadows.
I did find those harder to blend on Neenah vs Simon’s 120 LB paper, but it’s harder to blend Copics there too. I will definitely have to play with these markers some more to learn more about them, but my initial impression is WOW.
One of the reasons I was on the fence about these at first is I decided to really commit to growing my Copic collection and to get to know my Copic markers better (I recently did Favorite Copic Color Combo chart & post). This was just my personal reason. Nonetheless, these markers from Altenew are a great alternative to Copics. I don’t want to do a comparison, but I will say – they are really great (and nobody is asking me to say/write this, I truly enjoyed using them). One thing I loved – the colors, like with Altenew inks, are grouped together for easy blending. I don’t know how well future colors will blend (and I don’t know if there will be future colors or if there will be re-inkers or replacement nibs), but they do take the guesswork of what colors to use together now.
I cut my colored images out and used a black marker to color the edges of the paper to hide the white. This set comes with a black marker, so I didn’t even have to reach for my Copic black. I also used a white gel pen and drew white dots in the flower centers.
I went with my Perfect Cardmaking formula and used an elegant gold trim, pretty paper – Spicy Yogurt, foam mounted flowers and leaves on top, added a simple Thank You sentiment and finished this card off with a few Rose Gold sequins and clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh.
Before I go here’s a photo of my initial test doodling/drawing/sketching with these markers. I always appreciate photos like these, so I hope you’ll find it useful too (click to enlarge):
