Spellbinders | Colored Cardstock Poppies Card. Blog Hop + Giveaway (Now Closed)
Hello everyone and thank you so much for joining us today for a very first Spellbinders inspirational blog hop! There are 3 new collections that are being released this month from Spellbinders and there are a lot of talented designers joining this hop and sharing gorgeous projects using various products from these new releases.
I picked the Spellbinders Classics – Lavender & Poppies collection to share with you as it’s one of my favorite. This collection includes a number of dies that feature stunning images of poppies and lavender in various interpretations.
As of September 2016 I work as an in-house creative designer at Spellbinders office in Phoenix. While I do a lot of work for them and create a number of different projects I am only sharing what I truly love made using their products here on my blog. I do not and never will share projects or mention products I not love.

CARD DETAILS
I had the pleasure with working with the Lavender & Poppies (Spellbinders Classics) collection back during Summer as I made all the projects you can find on the packaging of these dies. It was quite a challenge, but I had lots of fun bringing all of these dies to life.
The card I picked to share today is the one I like best. I die-cut & embossed the poppy out of green and red cardstock. While keeping the red die cut in the die I stencilled a bit of red ink over it to help the petals pop. To darken the centers I used my black Copic marker and simply colored the center of the flowers black.
I snipped the red flowers off the red stems and foam mounted them onto the green stems to complete my flowers.
To finish this card I picked pretty patterned paper (unfortunately, I don’t remember the exact name or manufacturer of the patterned paper), trimmed it to 4 x 5 1/4″ and distressed the edges using the blade of my Tim Holtz scissors (you can also use a paper distresser, but I find I am able to get same results using scissors). I backed this panel up with a red panel and ripped the edges in a few places for an even more worn out look.
If you look closely you can notice I added red beads into the ripped sections – I simply poured a lot of glue and added lots of beads on top. I feel they add a very nice touch to this card.
Finally, I stamped a simple “Celebrate” sentiment in black ink and foam mounted it onto the card.
Poppies are very popular in Ukraine and since this is where I come from this collection is very dear to me. It was such a pleasure making these cards and I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to work with these dies again in the future.

October 16, 2017I’m trying to find some different words to use to talk about your first poppy card. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I can’t find any other word: WOW! I love the first poppy card. It is just GORGEOUS (here I go sounding like a broken record!). Really, Yana. I don’t know how you out-do yourself!!!! Beautiful cards — especially the “celebrate” one. Love these new dies. And thank you for sharing a bit more about Ukraine. I really appreciate your sharing about it. As always, thank you, Yana!! And thanks for the blog hop!!

October 16, 2017Love the details with the seed beads! I’m still new to cardmaking and I don’t have a die cutting machine, so no Spellbinders dies, but these are beautiful! Thank you for sharing! 🙂

October 16, 2017Thank you for sharing your beautiful cards…those red poppies, in particular, are gorgeous! I also appreciate you reminding me that I can distress things; sometimes I forget about a particular technique and it’s nice to be reminded. I am currently waiting on my next Spellbinder card and die kit – these are so much fun.
