WPlus9 | Pencil Colored Floral Thank You Card

WPlus9 | Pencil Colored Floral Thank You Card

Hello, friends! I hope you are having a great stamping week! The card I’m sharing with you today is not just a card. There’s a whole story to it. But let me start from the beginning! If you’ve been following me for the past few month you probably saw a few of my pencil colored cards on black cardstock. I shared one recently on gray and a few prior on black.

CARD DETAILS

As I started working on this card I didn’t have any black cardstock left, so I used olive green from my stash. I was at a crafty retreat and just wanted to do some stamping for fun. I didn’t know if I’d finish this card or not or even if it would turn out to be any good.

I heat embossed 4 partial floral clusters from WPlus9 to form the background using Simon’s Antique Gold embossing powder and started coloring some sections of these clusters. I didn’t have many supplies with me, but I did bring my set of Polychromos pencils so I instantly reached for my favorite combo – teal and deep blue.

I colored large leaves and also many of the tiny leaves in this set. Next I pulled out a white pencil and colored small flower buds white. I didn’t really know what color I wanted to color the large flowers so I kept putting off coloring those for as long as possible.

At one point Kristina, a cardmaker I greatly admire, got curious about this background and asked if she should could color it. She picked the greens and colored large flowers over a few days period. So I guess you can say this card was done by both of us!

I didn’t finish this card at the retreat as like I mentioned I didn’t have all of my supplies with me, so I saved this background and took it home. I finally finished it several days ago – adhered onto an A2 card base and added a simple heat embossed Thankful sentiment.

This is not a card design I would repeat again, these flowers really did take a very long time to color, but it did turn out absolutely beautiful! I think I am going to save this card and instead of mailing it will keep it for myself this time.

    1. Possibly the most valuable card ever, as it was made by two incredible artists. Gorgeous.

    1. I too love the unique and pretty color combination! I recently picked up a few more polychrome pencils at a local art supply store and am loving them. I sometimes mix them with the prismas I have and they combine just fine, but more and more I’m preferring the polychromes! Thanks for turning me on to them!!! As the prisma pencils I have get used up, I think I’ll be replacing them with polychromes!!! I just love the available colors! Thank you, Yana.

    1. Yep, it’s a keeper alright! I cannot wait to get started on this color combo with some floral stamp. Thanks!

    1. Oh my goodness! I just about fell off my chair when my eyes laid upon this beautiful card! This reminds me of the gorgeous Chinese or Japanese silks with their dramatic intense colors. What a discovery combining the olive with teal, my favorite color. I’d like to try this but quite a time commitment. I have to say that in the dramatic category this is your best. You and Kristina Werner turned into quite the team on this difficult project!

    1. It is so GORGEOUS! I love that you tag-teamed this project. I love the look very much and an going to have to start coloring on colored pencils. I might have to get some poly chromos too!!

        1. I swear I am not drunk at 10am on Black Friday…just can’t type! * going to have

    1. Love it!
Just to clarify, you colored directly over the antique gold paper, and still got those brilliant colors?

      1. Thank you!
It’s more of an olive green color paper, I’d say. But yes, I get vibrant colors with my pencils coloring directly over the paper. Not every color pencil gives me such vibrant results and not on every paper, but overall – yes.
