Simon Says Stamp | Pencil Colored One of a Kind Card

Simon Says Stamp | Pencil Colored One of a Kind Card

Hello, friends! I often feel our cards tend to reflect our mood and looking at the card I’m sharing today I can see how gloomy my mood was when I was making it. If I am to sit down and play with same supplies today I’d probably make a much more cheerful project.

I don’t typically share anything personal on my blog, but I want to this time. I’ll be short. While I was in China back in February-March this year my mom was diagnosed with stomach cancer and had a partial gastrectomy (part of her stomach was removed). She has since been prescribed a course of 6 chemotherapy treatments and has just finished her 3rd round of chemo. I am by her side during the chemo, especially when she is feeling very sick. I colored this card during one of those really bad days – I just needed something to keep busy and keep my mind off the negative thoughts. While I don’t particularly like this card now, I’m glad I made it at the time as it was my way of coping with reality. Cardmaking is my drug, it’s my way of coping with stressful situations.

CARD DETAILS

I started by heat embossing daisies from the Daisy Bouquet stamp set in Antique Gold embossing powder on kraft cardstock. Next, I colored my image with the help of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils (I’ve missed using them!). The petals were colored using a mix of white, blue and pink; the stem was colored using light and dark green. I didn’t write down exact pencil colors.

From there I splattered the panel with Hero Arts White Irridescent Shimmer Mist. Once it was dry I stamped “One of a Kind” in Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it in Clear embossing powder.

Then, I trimmed my panel down slightly and foam mounted to A2 black side folding card base. Lastly, I embellished this card with Girls’ Best Friend Sequin Mix and added a simple “You Are” stamped in black on a piece of same kraft paper.

    1. Out of our sorrows usually comes beauty, Yana! Even though, you think this is an gloomy card, I think it is BEAUTIFUL! It DOES have touches of brightness & color! A touch of hope? I know this is a difficult time for you, Yana, & I will keep you & your mother in my prayers. ;)<3

    1. Yana, the card is gorgeous. I’m so sorry you, your mom and your family are going through this. I know how it feels and I would like to send you a virtual hug from Houston, Texas. Thank goodness you can be there for your mom and that you have card making as an outlet. Some of my best work came from my darkest days. Hugs and prayers to you and your family and for a good outcome for your mom. Thank you so much for sharing.

    1. Yana – I am sending prayers, hugs, and hopefully a sense of peace to you and your mum all the way from Toledo, OH. This is all I can do, although I wish I could do more for you. 1. Yana, when you look at your card, you are probably reminded of the sadness you felt while creating it. Your card is Beautiful! Art is a wonderful way of expressing ourselves and we all need a way to release. Keep up the wonderful creations! I do hope your mother will come through her ordeal just fine. She is so lucky to have your support. Sending lots of love and best wishes for better days ahead.

    1. Yana, your comments just reinforce how much the cards we make, are truly a reflection of ourselves, as we feel in the moment. Yet despite your thoughts on the card, it is unique and attractive. I know how hard it can be to watch over and care for a loved one going through the cancer journey. It affects everyone. Your time with your Mom is an expression of your love for her, and there’s no doubt that will help her get through this.
Just take things one day at a time, find ways to incorporate humour and laughter into this journey, because they are beneficial for yours and your Mom’s health. Know that we’ll all understand if you find it hard to keep to your usual blogging schedule during this period, but we’ll all be hoping for your Mom’s recovery.
