Hero Arts | Tall & Skinny Christmas Cards. October 2018 My Monthly Hero Kit. Video (Blog Hop + Giveaway)
Hello everyone and thanks so much for stopping by to help celebrate the launch of Hero Arts October My Monthly Hero Kit (more about the kit, blog hop and giveaway below). I have several card ideas to share using this month kit and add-on items. This kit is all Christmas! YAY!
Today I am making tall & skinny Christmas cards using clear stamps, coordinating dies and Copic markers. Why tall and skinny cards specifically? Because why not? I’ve never really done non traditional card sizes, I did 2 tall cards this Summer (for the first time ever!) and I loved playing with that new size, it’s different, I have more room, more real estate for my ideas, I have space to try new ideas or re-invent my old cardmaking sketches and tricks.

CARD DETAILS – KIT ONLY
The cards that I am making today all showcase the brand new Hero Arts My My Monthly Hero October 2018 kit and of course some of the fabulous add ons.
All of my cards today feature a scene. I decided I’d go with a winter sky in the top portion of my card and snowy hills in the bottom portion.
I heat embossed a snowflake background in white embossing powder on light blue cardstock and I used one of the background stamps that is an add on this month. Next, I die-cut hills out of white cardstock and arranged them under my sky panel.
I stamped images in alcohol marker friendly ink and colored using Copic markers. I used the following colors for all of the coloring today:
- G99, G94, YG03;
- E02, E11, E31, E33, E37, E79;
- W5, W3, W1;
- B000, B00, B02, B04;
- Y15, Y17;
- R22, R24, R27, R39
I the Christmas tree with the light source in mind. I wanted to have a lamp port to the left of the tree so the right hand side of the tree ended up the darkest and left hand side – the lightest.
This is the only tree or the only card where I take the light source into consideration, the other trees and other images on my other cards are all colored without taking the light source into consideration. Taking a light source into consideration is not that hard, it just takes a little pre planning before you color.
I die-cut my images out and foam mounted onto the card creating a scene. I also added some shading under them to help ground them. Finally, I embellished this card using sequins from Snow & Berry sequin mix and added snow using a white pen onto my tree.
MY MONTHLY HERO OCTOBER 2018 KIT
The kit is available for a limited time only – once it’s gone, it’s gone. If you love it – better grab it now!
CARDS DETAILS – KIT ADD ONS
The rest of my cards today are all very similar, they differ in size and scene, but overall use the same supplies. I white heat embossed additional backgrounds using 2 new background stamps on various shades of blue cardstock. Next, I blended Pool and Navy ink colors to create a dark night sky background with pretty white snowflakes. I also sprayed each background with Iridescent Shimmer Spray.
For the card above I used Joy To The World sentiment from the Hero Arts Peace, Love & Joy stamp set. I stamped Joy in Navy and white heat embossed “To The World” on red cardstock.
For the card below I used a sentiment for another set, Merry and Bright Messages. I also stamped it in Navy ink and applied the same treatment for the “Bring Great” part of the sentiment.
My last card for today is the most complex of all. I first white heat embossed a sentiment and snowflakes to create a beautiful snowy night background. Next, I blended Soft Sky, Pool and Navy inks and added Iridescent Shimmer to create the deep blue background .
I also stamped, colored and die cut two lamp posts and a a bench along with little mistletoe and arranged those in the bottom section of my panel. I white heat embossed tiny garlands to connect the lampposts for this card.

October 1, 2018Love what you’ve done with the kit. Some really fun images in it! Am about to try a tall card myself (just waiting for a Julie Nutting paper doll stamp to arrive)! By the way, I recently tried “lighting” a lamp post with ink blending and ink blended the background for a night sky. Came out good! If I can do it, …!!!!! Like you, I have TON of Christmas cards already made … and I keep going because that’s what I like to do too! Thanks, Yana!

October 1, 2018Yana, I like how you went outside the Christmas box and made these cards longer! Plus the vibrancy of your backgrounds is stellar and I have seen noone else on the blog do this! It really catches your eye and keeps it moving around the card to try to take in all the fun skater action you have packed in! Or sledding, or snowflakes falling, or…etc. These are wonderful and thanks so much for sharing! Looking forward to watching your video later while I am at the gym on the machine. It will take my mind off the pain! TFS!
