Hero Arts | Hello Beautiful – Watercolor Background with Derwent Inktense Pencils

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I bought a case of Derwent watercolor pencils and that I was hoping to find some time to sit down and play. I created a very simple card with lots of white heat embossing and a bit of watercolor just to test my new purchase out.

The Derwent Inktense pencils are very different from other watercolor pencils I have in my stash mainly because they become permanent after they become dry. So for instance if you add a bit of color with the pencil to the paper next add water and don’t blend it out the pigment will become permanent and you wont be able to manipulate it after it dries.

Its a great property/quality that is wonderful for various techniques (which I am yet to explore), but this also takes a bit of getting used to. If you like to color slowly – these might not be the best option for you. Although if you work with a decent amount of water and focus on small sections – you should be fine.

To create this card I used images from several various stamp sets from Hero Arts – Butterfly Pair and Love Bug to heat emboss images in white and watercolor and For You Flowers to heat emboss a sentiment in gold.

I die cut my watercolor panel using a Stitched Rectangle die from Simon Says Stamp and foam mounted it onto a white card base. To embellish this project I added a bit of natural twine and adhered several Rose Gold and Gold sequins as well as a few clear droplets.

    1. Gorgeous Card, Yana! And thank you for the tips with the Derwent pencils. My hubby got me a set for Christmas Gift and I am still trying to get use to using them. They have beautiful colors for sure 🙂

    1. Hi Yana ~ Your card is gorgeous and the extra little details finish it off very nicely. Based on what you said, I don’t think the Derwent are for me because I have a tendency to color a bit more slowly. However, if I know someone that has them I’d certainly like to give them a try. Thanks for sharing all your info! ~HUGS~

    1. Stunning card! This coloring is amazing! So soft and gentle! Love it!
