Today I’m back with a detailed tutorial that takes a closer look at the Happiest Holidays BetterPress Registration Set from my City Holiday collection with Spellbinders — but with a twist! Instead of pressing with ink, we’re going all in with foil and creating a fully foiled, multi-color design.
If you missed the introductory video, I’ve already walked through how this set works with BetterPress inks. But I know many of you love the shine and flexibility of hot foil — especially on colored cardstock — so this post is for you!

DETAILS
The Happiest Holidays registration set includes three key steps (and several plates):

Sentiment: “Happiest Holidays”

Foliage: Layered greenery that wraps around the sentiment

Berries: Four tiny plates to add berries as the final detail
While designed for ink, all of these work beautifully with hot foil, giving you the ability to use them on colored cardstock — like the one featured in this video – Cosmic Sky.
I started by foiling the Happiest Holidays plate in gold foil on Spellbinders Cosmic Sky cardstock using the Glimmer Hot Foil System. This plate alone makes a stunning centerpiece!
I used Best Ever Craft Tape to remove excess overfoiling, but be gentle — it can lift up good foil too! A pencil eraser also works well for smaller cleanups.
Next, I foiled the foliage using Moondust foil — a beautiful, soft metallic that adds contrast without overwhelming the design.
Instead of using the registration guide here, I referenced a completed card and eyeballed the placement. With the foliage, exact alignment isn’t as critical — so don’t stress if it’s a little off.
I love using colored cardstock, and BetterPress inks don’t work well on dark backgrounds. Foiling gives me the freedom to use richer, moodier colors and still get a clean result.
Now for the trickiest part — the berries! These come on four separate plates, and they do need precise alignment. Here’s how I did it:

Tape your finished panel to your surface

Tape the registration guide over the panel

Lift the guide, add foil, slide each berry plate underneath to align them

Tape each plate down, carefully remove the guide, and foil
I used Opal foil to create white berries, but you can also use red, pink, or even hand-draw them with a gel pen for a quicker option.
To finish off the background, I added ink blending using Simon Says Stamp Night ink and a bit of VersaFine Onyx Black around the edges for extra depth. The key is to avoid blending over the white berries — I learned that the hard way.
For the sentiment banner, I used a die from the Christmas Cracker set, cut from red cardstock, and shaped slightly with foam adhesive for dimension. The card base is made from the same Cosmic Sky cardstock for a cohesive look.
The Happiest Holidays BetterPress Registration Set is definitely an advanced project — but it’s also incredibly fun and rewarding. Whether you’re pressing with ink or foiling layer by layer, the result is detailed, elegant, and perfect for your holiday cards.
