Creating a meaningful Mother’s Day card is always special, and today I’m sharing a detailed look at a 5×7 handmade card featuring several Spellbinders Club kits from March 2026. This project combines die cutting, hot foiling, and dimensional layering to create a bold and elegant design celebrating mom.

Mother’s Day Card with Spellbinders Club Kits
For this card, I combined elements from the Small Die of the Month, Large Die of the Month, and the BetterPress and Foil Club. The focal point is a beautiful “super mom” figure created using the Small Die set. I assembled the die-cut pieces ahead of time and added subtle ink blending for dimension using Hero Arts inks.
To enhance the die cut, I used:
– Poppy cardstock and Cranberry ink for soft shading on the red areas
– Saffron cardstock and Butter Bar ink for the hair
– Seaside cardstock and Arctic ink for the shirt
Dark Background for Contrast
If you’ve followed my work, you know I love a dark, dramatic background. For this card, I used indigo cardstock cut to 5×7 inches as the main panel. This deep tone helps the bright die cuts and white elements stand out beautifully.
The super mom figure is foam mounted in the center, creating a strong focal point and allowing room to build a floral arrangement around her.
Adding Hot Foiled Sentiment
For the sentiment, I used plates from the BetterPress and Foil Club to create a “Best Mom Ever” greeting. These plates are incredibly versatile and can be used for both pressing and foiling. I chose to hot foil the sentiment using white foil, which gives a look similar to white heat embossing but with a smooth, polished finish.
To align the words in a straight line, I used a T-square ruler and temporarily secured the plates with low-tack tape to create a hinge. This ensures precise placement when foiling.
A secondary sentiment, “You are unstoppable,” is added below using foam adhesive to create layered dimension.
Building the Floral Background
To surround the main image, I used floral dies from the Large Die of the Month. These dies are designed as part of a larger composition, but they can easily be adapted.
Here are a few ways I customized them:
- Trimmed leaves from the stems to create individual elements
- Mixed flower sizes for visual interest
- Created small clusters ahead of time for easier placement
The flowers were die cut from chiffon, brushed white, and wild berry cardstock, with foliage in peridot green.
Instead of traditional flower centers, I used small star die cuts from the Super Mom set. This unexpected detail ties the entire theme together and adds a playful touch.
Tip: If you don’t have this exact die set, substitute with any floral dies you have. Look for flowers around 1 inch in size and pair them with simple foliage.
Once the flowers were arranged around the figure, I filled small gaps with additional star die cuts. These help create movement and visually connect the white foiled sentiment with the rest of the design.
The finished panel was mounted onto a top-folding white 5×7 card base.
This card is a great example of how combining different club kits can expand your creative possibilities. By mixing die cutting, ink blending, and hot foiling, you can create a detailed and dimensional card that feels truly special.
