Simon Says Stamp | See You Later Googly Eyes Critter Card

Hello, friends! I am finally back home from Simon’s CREATE event that took place this past weekend in Columbus. I taught a Spellbinders class showing different ways one can use dies and while I was at the event I had this feeling that CREATE is like CHA for crafters. Know what I mean?

It was such an amazing place, so many wonderful, talented, creative people, so much positive energy. I got to meet my long time Facebook friend – she was a student at CREATE and we got to hand out a ton! I am very grateful and honored to have had the chance to be a part of CREATE.

If you’d like to take a look at this event you can explore #simonsayscreate on Instagram.

Today I have a simple card to share, this project was inspired by a comment on one of my previous posts (Hero Arts Mermaid Card) – Barb in kazoo said: “Love the card. I actually appreciate the fact that it wasn’t colored. I don’t have the skills or time or desire to always color in an image“. And this is exactly how I sometimes feel.

So Barb’s comment made me thinking – I have so many outline images that are meant to be colored, why not create a card using some of them and skip the coloring altogether?

CARD DETAILS

I started working on this card by cutting 1 1/4″ wide colored cardstock panels. I used Simon’s Sea Glass, Surf Blue and Audrey Blue cardstock colors. I also created an A2 top folding card base (I used Neenah Solar White 110 LB cardstock) and adhered my panels on top. I started with the lightest panel in the middle and radiated darker colors up and down the card.

Next I used my mini MISTI stamp positioner and VersaFine Onyx Black ink and started stamping critters from the Stacking Animals stamp set. I first placed the elephant in the middle and added a sentiment under him (later I foam mounted a sentiment that was white heat embossed onto black cardstock panel). I didn’t use birds and mouse from Stacking Animals set as their eyes were either too big or too small to fit a googly eye.

After my stamping was done I adhered a googly eye onto each critter; after I took photos of this card I noticed I forgot to add 2 eyes to the alligator above the elephant, so I added them later.

I wanted my images to have some sort of a highlight or detail, so I used a white pigment pen and added white dots to the backs of my critters and also colored some sections white. I also added tiny black dots in between the animals to fill the background with some faux texture.
