Simon Says Stamp | Ink Blended Hello Gorgeous Card

Hello, friends! Has Spring arrived in your part of the world yet? The last few days have been particularly chilly and humid leaving everyone (and me especially) wishing for some sunshine and warmer days. It’s been a drastic change compared to the weather in Shenzhen (we stayed in Shenzhen, China for nearly 2 months for a work trip) where it was much warmer, although still very humid and with little to no sunshine due to air pollution.

Today I have a bright colorful card to share. It uses only a handful of basic supplies and is fairly easy to make or re-create.

CARD DETAILS

This project features 2 simple techniques – emboss resist and ink blending. I started making my card by heat embossing “Hello Darling” in white embossing powder on white cardstock. I did some stamp altering prior to stamping and trimmed the flower clusters attached to the “Hello Darling” as I only wanted to stamp lettering on this card and not flowers.

Next, I placed my panel on the cutting mat and used grid lines of the mat to attach strips of low tack tape to mask off diagonal stripes on the card. Having done that, I ink blended blocks of color overlapping the sentiment. Looking at my card now, I wish I had done the ink blending more thoroughly, as one can see the ink blended imperfections. Another option is to use colored cardstock strips, but they might warp unevenly from the heat embossing.

I used some of my favorite colors of ink from Simon for the ink blending: Duckling, Sunshine, Maiblue, Hollyhock, and Twirling Tutu. To clean the ink off the embossed sentiment (this dye ink tends to color the embossing powder slightly so I always prefer to wipe it away) I lightly sprayed a microfiber cloth with Hero Arts Ultra Clean stamp cleaning solution and wiped the embossed sentiment. The cleaning solution also picked up some of the ink from the background leaving some interesting effects on the background (in a way it almost looks like watercolor!).

To finish my card I trimmed ink blended panel to 3 3/4 x 5″ and foam mounted onto an A2 white side folding card base. Next, I stamped “Just a Card to Say” in black ink and embellished the card front with Girl’s Best Friends sequins from Simon Says Stamp.
