Spellbinders | Glimmering Build a Banner – Fall Thank You Card with September’21 Glimmer of the Month | Video | Blog Hop
Hello! Today I am creating with the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month for September 2021 called Glimmering Build a Banner. This kit is just that, it is designed to create a stunning foiled banner. There’s a combination of hot foil plates and dies to foil the sentiments and cut the banner parts out.

GLIMMER HOT FOIL KIT OF THE MONTH
Spellbinders Club Kits are available as a part of a monthly Club subscription only. Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month for September 2021 includes the curved glimmer sentiments, the tail and shadow glimmer, the coordinating dies to cut them out, and a roll of foil. What is great about the Spellbinders Club is that there is no minimum commitment, you can join and cancel any time, so if you wanted to get just this one kit and not stay subscribed for the next month you could. Although Spellbinders Kits are quite fantastic and I’ve always been a fan. Sadly, I rarely have the time to share inspiration with these kits on my YouTube channel, but I do try whenever I feel really inspired. I do create a lot of the projects and videos you see on the Spellbinders website and youtube channel and I get to work with nearly every one of their kits. And I will say that they are very well designed.
CARD DETAILS
I’ve found it is easier to cut the paper to smaller rectangles and foil one sentiment at a time on each rectangle piece, rather than foiling several pieces at once on a larger sheet of paper. I’ve foiled 3 of each sentiment mainly because I like it when this banner consists of 3 sections, rather than just one, but, depending on the sentiment you can make it one section, a two-section, a 3 section, a 4 section banner, and so on (and span it across a slimline card).
You can also mix and match the colors and have a multi-color banner, instead of going with just one color. I prefer to foil the sentiment piece on colored cardstock and use plain white for the shadow and tailpieces.
Before I assemble the banner, I like to shape each section slightly to give it a bit of a curve. I simply curve the paper lightly with my fingers. Next, I add a foam square behind the center of the arch to help it keep its dimension. The foam square is just there to provide support so that the banner doesn’t lay flat. Next, I adhere pieces using glue. I add a thin line of glue along the edge of the sentiment section and adhere it onto the tail.
To create the card I’m sharing today I started with an Alabaster panel cut to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2”. I die-cut a bunch of leaves and berries using Spellbinders Mini Fall Blooms die set. This is a small, but very might set, a Fall addition to the Mini Blooms and Sprigs set released this Spring.
I added lots of colorful leaves, acorns, and berry branches above and below the banner. All were cut from Spellbinders essential cardstock. Next, I added quite a few gems onto the card – I went with green and used them to fill the leaves clusters above and below the banner. In the end, I decided to add some white pen highlights to these, so I used my Sakura Gelly Roll pen in size 8 and added white line highlights to most of the die cuts.
MORE IDEAS
I promised I’d show you other ways to use this banner and here I’ve made several banners using other, noncurved glimmer plates from my stash. When you work with clear stamps, especially the skinny strip stamps, you can bend them slightly to follow the curve of a banner. The glimmer plates are made out of metal, so you can’ curve them, but I’ve found if you use a small enough plate, you can’t quite tell that it doesn’t follow the curve. It looks almost as if it does.

September 16, 2021Thank you for the tips…I still have trouble with foiling sometimes, trying to foil a lot of sentiments at one time on a bigger piece of paper…doing one at a time like you suggested is actually faster, I spent less time messing with all of them at once! Love your other tips as well. Thanks for your tutorial. I do enjoy foiling and get so excited when it comes out good!
