Spellbinders | Foiled Greeting Cards with Expressions of Love Collection. Video

Hello, crafters! I have 3 foiled greeting cards to share along with some hot foiling tips featuring the brand new Expressions of Love collection from Spellbinders. I’ve sort of gotten a bit tired of making Christmas cards (anyone else feels this way?) and I needed a break, a switch to a different topic, so I was excited to dive into this different product line and make a few cards.

CARD DETAILS

The Expressions of Love collection includes 4 products, among them a glimmer hot foil plate – Scattered Hearts border plate that can also be used to foil background for your A2 cards (you simply need to foil it twice). I used this plate in 2 different ways to make the cards I’m sharing today. Firstly, I used it as intended – to hot foil. Secondly, I figured out a way to dry emboss with this plate to create an embossed background.

You & Me – Sending Love Card

Follow these instructions step-by-step to re-create this card:

• Hot foil Scattered Hearts border twice using gold foil on white cardstock. Cut the panel out using a rectangle die. Cut an opening in the center of the panel using a heart die from the Forever Love Hearts die set.
• Add a panel of light blue cardstock behind the opening with the help of foam tape. Adhere panel onto A2 white side folded card base.
• Die-cut car pieces using the Sunday Drive die set. Die-cut happy couple using the Sunset Sunday Drive die set. Place the couple inside the car. Foam mount to the card.
• Embellish the car using flowers and leaves. Add die-cut hearts.
• Hot Foil “Sending Love” sentiment, cut out and foam mount onto the card.

XOXOXO Card

My next card uses the leftover foiled die-cut heart from the previous card. It made a perfect focal point!

Follow these instructions step-by-step to re-create this card:

• Use leftover heart from the previous card, or hot foil Scattered Hearts border twice using gold foil on white cardstock. Cut a heart out using a die from the Forever Love Hearts die set.
• Dry emboss a background using the FSJ Love Stripe embossing folder. Trim panel to 4 x 5 1/4″, foam mount to A2 white side folded card base.
• Foam mount foiled heart.
• Hot Foil “XOXOXO” sentiment, cut out and foam mount onto the card.
• Embellish the card using die-cut flowers, leaves, and dots.

Forever Yours Card

My last card showcases a dry embossing technique using a glimmer plate. Instead of foiling the hearts border plate, I dry embossed it as if I was embossing using a die or embossing folder. The sandwich for the Platinum machine was the following: platform + glimmer plate face-up + paper + tan embossing mat + Glimmer clear spacer plate. Use caution when embossing with Glimmer plates as they are thicker than dies and can break your machine. 

Follow these instructions step-by-step to re-create this card:

• Dry emboss Scattered Hearts border twice on white cardstock. Cut the panel out using a rectangle die, foam mount to A2 white side folded card base.
• Die-cut hearts from light blue and white cardstock using Forever Love Hearts dies.
• Hot Foil “Thinking of You” sentiment in gold on light blue cardstock. Cut out and foam mount onto a white filigree heart. Add foam adhesive squares behind the sentiment to foam mount the white filigree heart onto a light blue heart. Adhere to card.
• Die-cut Forever Yours from light blue cardstock. Adhere to card.

Add double-sided tape onto the back of light blue cardstock before cutting this. This will give your easy to adhere stickers. Stick 3-4 layers together to create a chipboard-like die cut.

• Embellish the card using die-cut flowers and leaves.
