Hero Arts | Set Your Own Path Card by Yana Smakula

Hero Arts | Set Your Own Path

I adore making and giving motivational cards, and I also love to receive cards that encourage and motivate me. Usually, for me, these type of cards are difficult to make (and the process looks similar to the one described here), but I still very much enjoy making them.

Like this project? Pin it and save for later!

I started by heat embossing String Background stamp in white embossing powder onto watercolor paper. I got a new brand of watercolor paper recently, Daler Rowney, its far from being like my favorite Arches, but it will do for now (not too bad, I’m not loving it for backgrounds, but its okay for watercoloring smaller images). Next I used yellow and pink watercolors and did a wet on wet coloring of the background. Basically I wet the paper first and than just dropped the color and let it move on the surface on its own.

The reason I picked the String Background stamp is because it reminds me of different roads one can take in life, different decisions one can make. This is what happening in my life right now, so I guess my own life decision-making has inspired this project.

To imitate those decisions I stamped several cars from the Home Sweet Home set using Hero Arts Intense Black ink onto X-press it Copic-friendly paper and colored these images with alcohol markers. There aren’t any matching dies (I’m becoming very spoiled with all of the matching dies always being available), so I cut the images out with my scissors.

I heat embossed Set Your Own Path sentiment from the Dare To Dream Set and foam mounted it onto my watercolor background (I trimmed it using Simon’s Stitched Rectangle die to make it a bit smaller). Next I foam mounted the cars placing them along the tangled lines and added several white enamel dots.

    1. Hi Yana, great card. I love how you used the string background stamp as the roadway, neat idea! I love the sentiment and the colors you used. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.

    1. Love it!!! Great colors and design!
And this background stamp! I have to have it in my life!

    1. Hi Yana ~ Love how this heat embossed background is emulating your life, as it is mine at this time. I love your pink and yellow watercolor choices as well as those adorable little Bugs!! The Bugs bring back such fond childhood memories since this is the car my Dad drove to commute back and forth to work. Kinda gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling when I saw your card. Thanks for sharing with all of us and for the inspiration you offer with your designs. ~HUGS~
