Altenew & WOW! Collaboration Blog Hop. Color Layering with Embossing Powders
Hello and welcome to Altenew and WOW! Embossing Powder blog hop! We hope to inspire you to use Altenew stamps with fabulous embossing powders by WOW.
Because I am a huge fan of Color Layering (using multiple images or layers to create one multicolored image) I decided to do color layering using embossing powders for my card. The technique is simple, instead of using ink pads you use embossing powders.
To make my images pop I decided to work on black cardstock and use white and blue colors. I started by treating my cardstock with an anti-static powder tool (I use pencil eraser to clean up the powder after I’m done with embossing) and heat embossing several flower outlines using Opaque Bright White Super Fine Powder. Because its super fine it works beautifully for detailed images like these.
The image that I used, the small flower, has 3 layers and an outline. I didn’t want to use all 3 (however you can, make sure to start with the bottom layer for best results) and decided to use only one detail layer. There are actually 2 detail layers for this flower, so I used one for a few images and also used another one for a few additional flowers, this way I was able to create slightly different images for my card.
The reason I selected this particular stamp set and this very flower is because the layers that I used the color my flower with do not overlap the outline. There is a gap in the “layer image” for the ouline (like a zig-saw puzzle). Had there not been a gap, I would have covered the flower outlines with blue embossing powder and I didn’t want to do that.
The powder I used for coloring – Vintage Peacock is a beautiful mix of glitters and embossing powder. When heat set it shines beautifully and gives several shades of light blue, almost teal color.
For my sentiment I used a simple Congratulations from the Magnolia set and heat embossed it using the same white powder. I die cut my panel using the Stitched Rectangle die from Simon, adhered the outer part directly onto the card and foam mounted the inner part to create dimension on this project. I also embellished my project using my current favorite clear drops from Pretty Pink Posh.
