Simon Says Stamp | Glitz Glitter Gel & Heat Embossing

Last night I carved out some crafty time and played with new Simon Says Stamp Glitz Glitter Gels. Oh my! I must have made 20 different backgrounds (even my husband got curious and helped wash the stencils as I was applying the gels onto paper at an alarming rate). The gels don’t take long to dry, by the time I was done with my last background the first few were already dry.

CARD DETAILS

Gels give a very fine glittery texture and look amazing on various colors of cardstock. Here I used black for the background and Surf gel applied over the Deco Squares stencil. Love it! I didn’t want to cover the pretty background, so I brainstormed ideas for finishing this card and keeping the majority of the background visible. Clear acetate came to mind and I decided to heat emboss the focal point and the sentiment on acetate and foam mount it over the glitter background.

I used Merry Christmas Trees stamp set and heat embossed the largest tree and “Sending Holiday Cheer” sentiment in Antique Gold embossing powder. Embossing on acetate is tricky, there is lots of static and you have embossing powder sticking everywhere. Make sure to use an anti-static powder tool, and use a lot of it!

The problem with anything clear, such as this clear acetate, is how do you adhere it to anything? I planned to add gems to decorate the tree and hide little pieces of foam adhesive under the gems. I also hid little strips of foam adhesive under the widest parts of the sentiment. In the end, this gave me a popped-up heat embossed panel. Here’s another close up:

I certainly enjoyed working with acetate and I think I’ll be coming back to this technique again in the future.

Have fun stamping!
