Simon Says Stamp | Amazing Christmas (or the Power of Ink Blending)

Hello friends! I hope your week is off to a great start. Today I have a simple, 2-layer Christmas card featuring ink blending, heat embossing and the use of a shimmer pen. I say this card is a 2-layer because it appears almost flat one layer except for the recessed sentiment part.

CARD DETAILS

I started working on this card by Antique Gold heat embossing a gorgeous snowflake background on light blue cardstock (the same as the sentiment is heat embossed on). Next, I pulled out my inks and darkened the background with their help. I used High Dive and Deep Sea along with a bit of Navy from Hero Arts.

Next, using a shimmer pen I “colored” each of the snowflakes. This added lots of pretty shimmer just to the snowflake areas and kept the rest of the background vibrant blue.

I trimmed my background into 2 pieces to create this split background design. Next, I trimmed off a thin strip about 1/4″ wide, flipped it to the other side and heat embossed my sentiment on top. The Tiny Words Christmas stamp set worked perfectly for this as all sentiments in that set are very small.

I used solid layer of fun foam to foam mount my snowflake background pieces in place – I first foam mounted the bottom one, next the top and finally “inlayed” the sentiment piece – I used just tape and no foam adhesive here.

Lastly, I coated circles on the background with Nuvo Morning Dew Drops to add some dimension. The card ended up looking pretty, yet simple to make! I hope you’ll give this idea a try.
